Chicken Farmers of Canada, in partnership with all supply-managed organizations, took part in a targeted Lobby Day on November 7th and November 23rd. Delegates from the SM5 met with Parliamentarians, specifically Senators, to discuss the importance of supporting Bill C-282, An Act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act (supply management). Meetings included Senate party leaders and key committee members from the agriculture and international trade committees. Our main ask was to support Bill C-282 at all stages in the Senate and push for the swift passage of the legislation. Additionally, we met with a few Conservative Members of Parliament who were supportive of supply management and Bill C-282, to request their support in advancing this legislation with Conservative Senators.
Since Bill C-282 was introduced in 2022, the SM5 have worked together in lobbying efforts. A joint letter and information package from the SM5 organizations was sent to all Senators at the start of the Senate session this fall. As the legislation moves through the Senate, we will continue our advocacy efforts.
