Storage Stock 2019
The collection and publication of Canadian storage stock data is a collaborative effort between Statistics Canada, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).
All Public Cold Storage Warehouses in Canada are required by law to submit to Statistics Canada an inventory of their frozen poultry and egg product stored on their premises on the first full business day of each month. This is not a cumulative total for the entire month, but only what is residing in their storage facility on that day.
The collection of poultry and egg storage stock information is a jointly operated program within the Federal Government. Poultry and Egg storage stock data is collected under the authority of the Statistics Act, and a Memorandum of Understanding between Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Statistics Canada. Under the Statistics Act, it is mandatory that the storage facility which has been sent a form for the collection of storage statistics must complete this form. It is not a voluntary form.
Statistics Canada prepares and mails out the forms, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency District offices collect the data, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Statistics Canada publish the final monthly reports.
